Mac OS X Application List. A good list of stuff for Mac OS X.

Blogger should automatically support linking URLs. I wonder if I can manually write an RSS file...

Other things I want:

Radio Userland
Two (2) Microsoft Xbox Controller S Controllers
Ice Cream

Yeah, this is my first link where I am not posting any comment on it.

Many of the concepts shown here will soon be posted to my website. These are part of The Zavx Project, which will be explained in detail later.

I have noticed something bad about text wrapping:

The quick, brown fox jumped over the lazy
dog.

Now let's say that the bounding container of this sentance could not fit 'dog' on the first line, so it brings it down to the next line. This visually looks bad, especailly when there are multiple instances of it. My solution would look like this:

The quick, brown fox jumped
over the lazy dog.

It would take the paragraph and re-wrap it until the last line is closest to the right end without wrapping to a new line again. This essentially takes the horizontal range and pulls it back to even it out. (Something some magazines and prints do manually.)

Note that this procedure could also apply to spread text. (Where the text aligns on both sides.) It would simply strech out the word spacing until a complete block of text was made.

Here is a great article describing a concept similar to my own. There is no defined hierarchy of files; everything would be freeform. Instead, each file could have any property assigned to it, and then you could use a path such as /notes/created:today/author:me/ to crop down the list or to find the entry that you want. (You could also represent the same path as /author:me/created:today/notes/ and it would return the same results.)

I am working on a new section of my website dedicated to essays and stuff. I am also going to post better contact and resourse information on my main page.

I have posted a new page on my website devoted to Jabber clients. It is homepage.mac.com/pixelcort/jabber. Check it out. Don't forget to send feedback to pixelcort@mac.com, which doupbles as my AOL Instant Messenger (iChat) address and my .NET Messaging Servier (MSN/Windows Messenger) address.

I am still waiting for .mac to support Jabber. This would allow me to use my @mac.com address to send and recieve messages in Jabber, and not use a free service. I paid for my .mac account, so the opinons on the features supported should be more influencial. :)

I belive HTML and HTTP have outdone their use. 'The Web' is becoming something very unique and dynamic, however the integration of visual layout and content is quite strange when you think about it. We do have RDF and XML for content, however RDF might not be the best thing for content that previously an HTML document contained. Also, HTTP is, IMHO, something that should become done with. Perhaps we need an XML Transport Protocol, or xtp: scheme. Does this already exist? FTP is probably done with, and we need something for xml data now. Another thought is about non textual content in XML, like images and scripts (executables are dumb!) Or even audio in XML. () lol.

I hate the internet. I hate proprietary. However you will never take away my usage of Mac OS X 10.2, until something newer is released. The next time Apple comes out with the next big, revolutionary project, I would encourage them to release it to the public. You have one person who would jump at it. :)

Did anyone notice the lack of conversation about Inkwell? This 'feature' in Mac OS X 10.2 is not talked about much, including by Apple.

Hello! My hard drive is kicking out. It's making multiple noises. Still waiting up on internet broadband.

OK, so I got a phone line at home and am now using Dialup. I am now remembering just how slow this connection is, not to mention the latency I get under load. It's unbearable. Hurry up, AT&T Broadband, and get Cable Internet in my area online!

I was feeling sick yesterday, and so today I am taking a day off. I sill will be doing schoolwork, though.

My friend got accepted for XBox Live, and they can actually get Broadband, unlike some people...

After reading the article over at Spymac, I have some interface ideas of my own:

You would have a desktop that's width is as usual, however the height would be infinite. Your mouse would always be in the vertically center of the screen, so that moving your mouse down wouldn't move the mouse, it would move the 'world' up. Moving the cursor left and right would be as normal, as having an infinit 2 dimensional plane would be too confusion, IMO. There wouldn't be windows, instead, a container the width of the screen and the height of the document would contain that document. Thus, you wouldn't have scroll bars anymore. There wouldn't be layering of documents, the end of one documents would show the beginning of the next. There would be ways to collapse all documents to see their titles in a list, and expand back out to their origional one over the other appearance.

I got an XBox the other day! I also got a second controller, the DVD playback kit, and two games. (Halo, Spiderman) I can't wait until XBox Live!

It's alive! Mount Google Assistant now!

Question: What are the differences between bzip2 and gzip? Do they have any significant compression differences in terms of ratio? From my tests, they produced the same size compressed files.

I'm getting an XBox!

I got YDL 2.3 installed, and loving it!

I am going to dumb up Navigator Installer so that it people can't get confused with it.

Hurry up, AT&T Broadband, get me Cable Internet!

Thursday, October 03, 2002
It would be cool if .mac would host a mailing list for me. One that would be seperate from my mac.com email address. Then I could have pixelcort-annunce@lists.mac.com or something. Each user could have like one or two to host and anyone could join. You could also specify members that have joined to have limited access to the iDisk of the admin. Then, I could keep my Public folder Public, and another section for files for my list. I hope that now that .mac is a subscription service that we will see cool new features like this.

Don't get me started on Jabber support for mac.com...

I am becoming addicted to the services MSN is providing. Hurry up with new features for .mac, Apple!

I am working on a new project where you can access your login information for a user environment would be distributed over a floating network of nodes in the greater Floating Network concept. Since the Floating Network concept is based upon the foundation of the public-private key system, a home database for the user could be kept private.

I hate the Internet.

I can't get any internet connection at home, as we don't have a phone line. Dialup requres a phone line. DSL requires a phone line. Cable internet isn't available in my area. (Tracy, CA 95377) Now we have Cable through AT&T Broadband, and I see a comercial that says that they are working in our area with new tehnologies, so I am hoping that means that we can get Cable internet in our area.

I truly hate the Internet. I wish it was like free or something. Something that we would pay taxes for. Like the road and highway system or something. That way we could get public internet licences and 'drive' the internet, however some dumb politician would get confused how the internet works and would base the system on something dumb, like Web Portals or something, with proprietary systems and a bunch of other crap.

Maybe I should wait for Cable Internet...

I read the article about how Apple is trying to close down much of the customization capabilities of the mac platform. Mac users, unite! The fact that they had had it open in Mac OS has revolutionized the way we use the computer; if the capability of customizaion becomes not possible, we will no longer have control over how we use our computer and it's interface. An interface is as only as good as the way people make it. I suggest you go to Mac OS X Feedback and send your opinions on these things. I personally like 'Themes' and, when I think about it, having them wouldn't hurt the mac platform, it would help it. And of course, we are now using a multi-user OS, if another user uses a mac, they could use a different login and have the standard Aqua interface.

For some strange reason I find myself attracted to iCab again. It renders pages much more nice and small, the way I like it. Perhaps having a _smaller_ font may be better then a bigger one? I guess I will have to change my settings in my other browsers to simulate this effect. Also, iCab seems more responsive when the computer is under heavy load, while other browsers lag behind. It still renders slowly, but once rendered, it's so fast. I don't know, perhaps I am just imagining it.

So I downloaded and tested out iSync. One thing I don't understand is the difference between making all the computers in .mac synchronizaion have the same name vs. making them have different ones. It says I can get the backed up information from .mac by using the same name, so what's the difference? Is it a two step process? (My computer to .mac, .mac syncing muliple computer representations, then another computer syncing with it's setup.)

One feature I would like is synchronization of folders and settings, so I can share a home folder between two different computers. Then, I could have the same setup on multiple machines and not have to manually syncrhonize their files. iSync could be like that program that came with Mac OS in older laptops, where you could keep a folder in Sync. I have high hopes for this product, and look forward to seeing what happens with it.
